Frequently asked questions
Is this slug generator free?
Yes — completely free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The slug is generated entirely in your browser — your text never leaves your device.
What is a URL slug?
A slug is the readable part of a web address that identifies a page, like “best-running-shoes” in example.com/best-running-shoes. Clean, keyword-rich slugs are easier to read and better for SEO.
What does removing stop words do?
It drops small, common words like “the”, “a”, “to” and “of” so the slug stays short and focused on your keywords — for example “the-best-way-to-learn” becomes “best-way-learn”.
How are accents and symbols handled?
Accented letters are converted to their plain equivalents (café → cafe), including the ones that have no accent to strip — ß becomes ss, ø becomes o, æ becomes ae, ł becomes l, þ becomes th. Punctuation and symbols are removed, leaving lowercase letters, numbers and your chosen separator.
Can I make a slug from Russian, Arabic, Hindi or Japanese?
Yes — tick “Keep letters from any script”. By default the slug is reduced to a–z and 0–9, which leaves nothing at all for a title written in another script. With the option on, the letters are kept as they are, so “Привет мир” becomes “привет-мир”. Modern browsers and most content systems handle these URLs fine.
