Frequently asked questions
How are sentences counted?
A sentence ends at a full stop, exclamation mark or question mark followed by a space or the end of the text. That rule keeps decimals and version numbers intact — “costs $9.99 today” is not two sentences — but an abbreviation followed by a space, like “Mr. Jones”, is counted as a sentence break. If your text is full of abbreviations, expect the count to run a little high.
How is reading time estimated?
Reading time uses an average silent reading speed of 200 words per minute. Speaking time uses a typical presentation pace of 130 words per minute.
What counts as a paragraph?
Any block of text separated from the next by one or more blank lines. A single line with no blank lines counts as one paragraph.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. All counting happens instantly in your browser — your text never leaves your device.
