Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to generate a password online?

Yes, here it is — the password is generated in your browser using your device's cryptographically secure random number generator (Web Crypto). It is never sent to a server, logged or stored anywhere.

How long should my password be?

At least 16 characters for anything important. Length matters more than complexity — every extra character multiplies the work an attacker has to do.

What does the strength meter measure?

Entropy — how many random bits the password contains, based on its length and the character sets you selected. Around 70 bits is strong for online accounts; 100+ bits resists even offline cracking.

Should I use symbols in my password?

If the site allows them, yes — they grow the character set, so you get more strength per character. If a site rejects symbols, just increase the length instead.

What does “exclude look-alikes” do?

It removes characters that are easy to confuse when read or typed by hand — like 0 and O, or 1, l and I. Useful for passwords you might need to read off a screen or write down.
