Frequently asked questions
What is Base64?
A way to represent any data using only 64 safe characters (A–Z, a–z, 0–9, + and /). It's how binary data travels through text-only channels like JSON, email and data URLs.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No — encoding and decoding happen entirely in your browser. Nothing you paste is sent to a server, so it's safe to use with tokens and secrets.
Does this handle emoji and non-English text?
Yes. Text is encoded as UTF-8 first, so emoji, Hindi, Chinese and every other script round-trip correctly — a common failure in naive Base64 tools.
What does the URL-safe option do?
Standard Base64 uses + and /, which clash with URLs. The URL-safe variant swaps them for - and _ and drops the trailing = padding. Decoding accepts both variants automatically.
Is Base64 encryption?
No — it's encoding, not encryption. Anyone can decode it instantly, so never use Base64 to hide secrets; it only changes how data is written, not who can read it.
