Frequently asked questions

Which color formats does this support?

HEX (#f80 or #ff8800), RGB and HSL — in both directions. Paste any of them and get the other two instantly.

When should I use HSL instead of HEX or RGB?

HSL separates hue, saturation and lightness, so it's the easiest format to adjust by hand — make a color darker by lowering L, or muted by lowering S, without recalculating everything.

What does the contrast check tell me?

The WCAG contrast ratio of black and white text on your color. Aim for at least 4.5:1 for body text — the badge shows which text color passes.

Why did my HSL value shift slightly after converting?

HSL values are rounded to whole numbers, and not every HSL triple maps to a whole RGB value. The visible difference is imperceptible — under half a percent.
