Frequently asked questions
Is this tip calculator free?
Yes — completely free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser — nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
How much should I tip?
It varies by country and service, but in the US 15–20% is common for restaurant service. Tap one of the preset buttons or enter your own percentage.
How does splitting the bill work?
Set the number of people and the calculator divides the total (bill plus tip) equally, showing the per-person amount as well as each person's share of the tip.
Is the tip calculated on the bill before or after tax?
This calculator applies the tip percentage to whatever bill amount you enter. If you prefer to tip on the pre-tax amount, enter the pre-tax bill; if on the post-tax total, enter that instead.
