Frequently asked questions

What is a retirement corpus?

A retirement corpus is the lump-sum amount you need on the day you retire so that, invested conservatively, it generates enough income to cover your expenses for the rest of your life.

How does inflation affect the calculation?

Inflation erodes purchasing power. ₹50,000/month today may need ₹1,00,000/month in 20 years at 3.5% inflation. The calculator converts today's expenses into future-value expenses before computing the corpus.

What return rate should I use?

Use a conservative post-retirement return (5–7% for a balanced portfolio). A 7–10% pre-retirement return is reasonable for equity-heavy portfolios. The calculator separates these two phases.

How is the monthly saving requirement calculated?

Using the future value of an annuity formula: how much you need to save monthly at the given pre-retirement return to bridge the gap between your current savings and the required corpus.
