Frequently asked questions
Where do the exchange rates come from?
Rates are fetched from the Open Exchange Rates free API (open.er-api.com), which updates roughly every 24 hours. They are indicative mid-market rates, not buy/sell rates from a bank or money changer.
Why might the rate differ from my bank?
Banks and exchange services apply a spread (markup) on top of the mid-market rate, plus transaction fees. The rate here is the raw market rate with no markup.
How often are rates updated?
The source updates daily. This tool fetches and caches the rates in your browser for up to 1 hour to avoid unnecessary API calls.
How many currencies are supported?
Over 160 currencies including all major fiat currencies and several pegged or regional ones. Cryptocurrencies are not included.
