About the Circle Crop

Crop any image into a circle for profile pictures and avatars — pick the size, get a transparent-corner PNG, all in your browser with no upload.

How to use the Circle Crop

  1. 1Drop in an image, paste one, or click to browse — JPG, PNG, WebP and iPhone HEIC all work, and everything happens on your device.
  2. 2Drag the square selection to frame your subject; the preview shows the real result at the size you'll download.
  3. 3Choose Circle or Square, and pick an output size for your avatar.
  4. 4Check the file size on the button, then click Download to save it.

Frequently asked questions

Is this circle crop tool free?

Yes — completely free with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many images you crop.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Cropping happens entirely in your browser — your images never leave your device.

Will the corners be transparent?

Yes. A circle crop is saved as a PNG with transparent corners, so it sits cleanly on any background — perfect for profile pictures and avatars. The preview sits on a checkerboard so you can see exactly where the transparency falls, and the circle's edge is smoothed so it doesn't look stepped against a dark background.

What size should a profile picture be?

512×512 pixels works well on most platforms and stays sharp. You can also choose 256, 1024 or keep the original crop size. Round profile pictures are displayed inside a circle by most apps anyway.

Why does it warn that my avatar will look soft?

Because the area you selected is smaller than the output size you picked, so the image has to be enlarged and the extra pixels are invented. Either choose a smaller output size or drag a larger selection — on a high-resolution photo you can usually do both.

Can I make a square avatar instead of a circle?

Yes — switch the shape to Square to download a square crop. Many platforms mask it into a circle automatically, but a square PNG is handy when you need the full frame. A square crop needs no transparency, so you can also save it as JPG or WebP for a much smaller file.
