Frequently asked questions
What grading scale does this tool use?
The tool uses the UGC Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) grading pattern: O (≥90%), A+ (≥80%), A (≥70%), B+ (≥60%), B (≥55%), C (≥50%), P (≥40%), F (below 40%). Your institution may use slightly different cutoffs.
How is CGPA calculated?
CGPA = (sum of credit × grade-point for each subject) ÷ (total credits). This weighted average gives more weight to higher-credit subjects. The tool calculates it across all subjects you add.
How is CGPA converted to a percentage?
The most common formula used by Indian universities (including Mumbai University, VTU, and Anna University) is: Percentage = CGPA × 9.5. Some institutions use CGPA × 10; check your university's handbook for the exact formula.
What is the 4.0 grade point scale?
The 4.0 scale is used primarily in US universities and some Indian deemed universities. An O/A+ maps to 4.0, A to 3.7, B+ to 3.3, and so on. This tool shows both 10-point and 4.0-point equivalents.
