Frequently asked questions

What format is the recording saved in?

Recordings are saved as WebM with Opus audio (the most efficient format the browser's MediaRecorder API produces). Most modern media players open it directly. To convert to MP3 or WAV, drag the file into an offline converter such as Audacity or FFmpeg.

Does my audio leave my device?

No. All processing happens in your browser using the MediaRecorder API. The audio is never uploaded to any server.

Why can't I hear myself while recording?

The tool intentionally disables the microphone monitor to prevent feedback howl when you are not using headphones. The waveform confirms audio is reaching the mic.

How long can I record for?

There is no hard limit set by this tool. Practical limits are your device's available RAM and the browser tab's memory ceiling. For recordings longer than an hour, a dedicated app or DAW is more reliable.

The waveform is flat — why isn't my mic working?

Check that you granted microphone permission when prompted. In Chrome: click the lock icon in the address bar → Site settings → Microphone → Allow. Also make sure the correct input device is selected in your OS sound settings.
