Frequently asked questions

Is this image rotator free?

Yes — completely free with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many images you rotate or flip.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Rotating and flipping happen entirely in your browser — your images never leave your device.

Why does my photo appear sideways?

Phones record the orientation they were held at as hidden metadata, which some apps ignore. This tool reads that metadata, shows the photo the right way round, and then bakes the orientation you choose into the pixels — so the saved file looks correct everywhere, with no metadata left to misread.

What's the difference between rotating and flipping?

Rotating turns the image around its centre in 90° steps. Flipping mirrors it — horizontal flip swaps left and right, vertical flip swaps top and bottom, always as you see it in the preview.

Will rotating reduce the image quality?

Rotating in 90° steps and flipping are lossless operations on the pixels themselves, but saving the result re-encodes the file. Choose PNG to avoid any re-compression, or use the quality slider for JPG and WebP — keep it high to preserve detail.

Does it remove EXIF data like the date or GPS location?

Yes. Saving redraws the image, so camera details, capture date and any GPS coordinates are not carried over — useful if you're sharing the photo, but worth knowing if you wanted to keep them. The EXIF Remover does the same thing without changing the image.

Can I straighten a slightly tilted photo?

Not yet — rotation is in 90° steps, which fixes sideways and upside-down photos. Correcting a tilted horizon by a few degrees is a different job, because the corners have to be filled in or cropped away.
