Frequently asked questions
Is this redaction tool free?
Yes — completely free with no sign-up and no watermark on the result.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. Redaction happens entirely in your browser — the file never leaves your device.
Is the redacted content actually removed, or just covered up?
Actually removed. Any page you redact is re-rendered as an image with the marked areas painted out at the pixel level, so the text underneath can't be recovered by copying or selecting it — unlike drawing a black box on top, which leaves the original text intact underneath.
Will pages I don't redact still have selectable text?
Yes — only pages with at least one redaction box are converted to an image. Every other page is left exactly as it was, still vector and still searchable.
Can I undo a redaction box before downloading?
Yes — hover over any box and click the × that appears to remove it.
